Stephen Poulos, MD is the founder and director of Allpure Behavioral Health. He was born in the suburbs of Chicago and then moved to SW Florida in 1985. He earned dual bachelor degrees from the University of South Florida, Tampa in Chemistry & Biology. During his undergraduate career, he also worked as a research associate and obtained over six years of Neurosurgery research in a highly prestigious, clinically novel, preclinical neural transplantation research laboratory. While at the USF Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair, he was published in many highly respected peer reviewed journals and also participated in numerous research symposiums across the country.

As a medical student he founded & created HOME, Heart of Meharry’s Embrace, a support group for cardiac patients and their families. It was the first of its kind in Meharry’s 145 year history and was funded by the American Heart Association. As a resident physician, he served as chief resident and was again published for his work in stem cell transplantation and FASD.
His training, cutting edge research experience and genuine love for what he does allows him to better understand each individual’s needs are complex & different. He provides exceptional psychiatric care and has chosen to bring his experience back to Southwest Florida in order to continue serving those in need.
He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and Florida Medical Association. Elam Mental Health Center in Nashville, TN and was nominated a Top Doctor of Psychiatry in 2022.
